When putting information in a relational database the possibilities for running reports from the tables that have been created in the database are endless. As long as the information is organized well, the end user can create queries to enervate reports based on the data that has been entering into the database. Another great benefit for creating a relational database is the data storage. Data is stored in tables that have a primary key which holds the Identification of that data.
It assures the end user that there is no duplication of data and helps to reduce data redundancy. Data Integrity assures the end user or database administrator that the data that created follows the rules that are applied so that when reports are generated or queries are created that the data that the end user sees Is accurate and good. If Integrity rules are created with the relational database then It limits the end user of the type of data they can enter into those fields within those tables.
Terms that was unfamiliar: 1 . Normalization = the process of organizing the fields and tables of a relational database to minimize redundancy. 2. Entity = an entity is most easily thought of as a person, place, or physical object; an event; or a concept. 3. Queries = a request for information from a database. 4. Attributes = a piece of Information about the entity. 5. Clustering = a data mining technique used to place data elements into related roofs without advance knowledge of the group definitions.
I am a technical writer and editor and put together technical manuals for deferent types of military hardware and software. I use several kinds of databases every day for my Job. We use a portal system for housing our data for our XML files that we create for our technical documentation which is stored in a SQL database on the backbend. The XML files themselves are form of a simplified database. It stores data within a tagging structure for later use and manipulation for page or web-based publications.
