Every individual has goals they set out to accomplish whether they are aware that they are goals or not. Goals bring motivation to Individuals because of the need to accomplish that goal. Goals can bring both negative and positive motivation. In the united States Army the main goal is to protect the freedom of the United States of America. To accomplish this goal Soldiers have to be trained by Noncommissioned Officers (NCO).

NCO have different techniques to motivate Soldiers to help better their interest In the training. These techniques can Include rewards, praise, and pride. The Job of the NCO Is never over always changing so NCO have to stay motivated In order to accomplish the goal of training Soldiers. Job satisfaction is how content an individual is in going to work every day and performing at the highest levels. NCO do not have to worry too much about Job stability because they are under contract with the Army but Job satisfaction is something NCO have to work hard to achieve.

If NCO are not satisfied with the Job Han the yearly evaluation will show standard performance but not stellar performance. The Creed of the Noncommissioned Officer No one is more professional than l. I am a Noncommissioned Officer, a leader of soldiers. As a Noncommissioned Officer, I realize that I am a member of a time honored corps, which Is known as “The Backbone of the Army’. I am proud of the Corps of Noncommissioned Officers and will at all times conduct myself so as to bring credit upon the Corps, the Military Service and my country regardless of the situation in which I find myself.

I will not use my grade or position to attain pleasure, refit, or personal safety. Competence Is my watchword. My two basic responsibilities will always be uppermost In my mind-?accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my soldiers. I will strive to remain technically and tactically proficient. I am aware of my role as a Noncommissioned Officer. I will fulfill my responsibilities inherent in that role. All soldiers are entitled to outstanding leadership; I will provide that leadership. I know my soldiers and I will always place their needs above my own.

I will communicate consistently with my soldiers and never leave them uninformed. I will be fair and Impartial when recommending both rewards and punishment. Have to accomplish mine. I will earn their respect and confidence as well as that of my soldiers. I will be loyal to those with whom I serve; seniors, peers, and subordinates alike. I will exercise initiative by taking appropriate action in the absence of orders. I will not compromise my integrity, nor my moral courage. I will not forget, nor will I allow my comrades to forget that we are professionals, Noncommissioned Officers, leaders!

The Creed of the Noncommissioned Officer is what every NCO strives to live by tooth on and off duty. The main purpose of the NCO is the train, mentor, and motivate the lower enlisted members of the Armed Forces. The Job of the NCO is to complete the tasks needed to prepare to defend the United States of America. In order for the NCO to do this Soldiers must be trained and prepared to become future NCO. When a Soldier becomes a NCO that Soldier is trusted with the ability to make difficult choices when senior NCO and officers are not around.

NCO are responsible for deciding how they want to train the Soldiers on the tasks needed to e done Senior NCO and Officers rarely have any involvement in the training of Soldiers because of the trust they have in the NCO conducting the training. NCO stay motivated because of what they are doing rather than what they receive. This motivation is known as intrinsic motivation. NCO will accept rewards and praise from the Job that they do but never ask for it. NCO will not use their grade or position to obtain pleasure, profit, or personal safety.

The NCO will place the needs of the Soldier, and the mission before their own needs. Majority of the mime the NCO that receive many rewards and praise are those that never expect it and perform at high levels regardless of how they feel about the tasks. The NCO knows what needs to be done and the self-satisfaction of training the Soldiers and seeing those Soldiers succeed. Motivate Me Motivation is something derived in everyone’s psyche and is different with every individual (Reeves, 2009). Motivation is what drives someone to work to fulfill a desire no matter how small it is.

The NCO has to remain motivated at all times regardless of what is going on around them. If a Soldier sees an NCO lose his or her motivation then the Soldier starts to question why they should be motivated if the NCO is not. The Army has many motivational strategies to help keep Soldiers and NCO motivated. The most effective motivation technique the Army has is rewards for performance. The type of rewards range from days off work to the Army Accommodation Award (ARCOS). Every Monday a unit has a uniform inspection and one Soldier ,and one NCO gets the day off for having the best looking uniform.

This can motivate Soldiers and NCO to come to work looking extra clean. This reward can only go so far, the real motivation is working toward the rewards that can be put on your dress uniform and your records. For the NCO rewards look good on the uniform but nothing looks better then and excellent review at the end of the year because The Army today is changing how things are done for the NCO when it comes to promotions. The Army is looking for not only rewards but they look for the way the yearly evaluation is written.

If an NCO is up for promotion and the evaluation shows that not only the NCO motivates his Soldiers but himself. They want to see that this NCO is motivated to do things not only at work but away from work. When a Soldier of NCO does things away from work they can receive another reward for service outside the workplace. The rewards system in the Army is very effective because the NCO getting promoted are of the highest quality and the motivation level is high at all times which in turn motivate the Soldiers.

The Goal System According to the business dictionary the definition of a goal is an observable and measurable end result having one or more objectives to be achieved within a more or less fixed timeshare. Every individual and company has a main goal needed to be accomplished and on the road to that goal they accomplish smaller goals. The smaller goals can have the same amount of importance as the larger goals. The main goal for the NCO is train, mentor, and motivate Soldiers regardless of the situation in which they find themselves in.

In order for the NCO to reach those goals they have smaller but Just as important goals they have to accomplish. NCO have each had different ways to reach their goals and they set up their smaller goals according to techniques they have to train their Soldiers. The easiest way to explain it is like stepping stones, you start with the basics and when the Soldiers become efficient with the basics then it’s time for the next step which is the Job specific training. This step takes the longest to accomplish because there are always different things to learn about a specific Job.

During this step a NCO has the best chance to reach the main goal of training, mentoring and motivating the Soldiers for the simple fact that if the Soldier loses motivation then they have no interest in becoming efficient in their Job. The goal system for the NCO is one of the most effective because it is very ass to see what needs to happen to reach each and every goal. It does not matter how challenging the goals are to accomplish the NCO is well trained to find ways to accomplish the goals set before them.

When a NCO finds a specific technique that works best then it is very hard to slow down that NCO from complete every goal set before them. Conclusion The Noncommissioned Officer is known as the backbone of the Army and the responsibilities of the NCO are very high. With such high expectations NCO have to remain motivated at all times regardless of what is going on around them. They have to live by the Creed of the Noncommissioned Officer at all times and show not only Soldiers but civilians as well the they are professionals.

The Army has many different techniques to keep NCO motivated from things as small as days off work to the ARCOS. Whether the NCO receives rewards or not the self-motivation is high get them their faster than rewards can. For the NCO to have excellent evaluations they need to be able to train, mentor and motivate the Soldiers and the best way to do so is to set goals. With the goal system in place the NCO has a map to how they ant to reach their main goal and each NCO has different ways to reach those goals and not all goals will be the same.

With an effective goal system in place an NCO can reach that excellent evaluation and also know that they have trained Soldiers to be future NCO that in turn can do the same for their Soldiers.
