Typically, about 5-10% of residential electricity in most developed countries and a rising fraction In the developing countries are consumed as standby electricity. Altogether, standby power use Is roughly responsible for 1% of global CO emissions. Gibe defines two layers of the OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) model: the Application Layer (PAL) and the Network Layer (NIL). Each layer performs specific set of services for the layer above.

The different layers communicate through Service Access Points (SAP). Gibe defines three types of devices: 1). Gibe Coordinator (CZ) 2). Get Router (ZERO) 3).
